Jack Henry Steinbeck 1st quarter report...

So as most of you know we had our son on July 18th and man did our life change. So the first 2 weeks I was a little lost. Jack only responded to me occasionally and really just needed his mom. Breast feeding was an instant hit with Jack and he was on the Boob all the time,as much as every hour and a half.I tried to be helpful ,but being a new dad is one of the toughest things I have ever done. I found that for Jack nothing short of perfect will do,which drove my wife and myself in both good and bad ways.Being nice at 3 in the morning is impossible and mistakes make that worse. I think that being a father was not the most natural thing for me. It took till about week 4 or five for Jack to really recognize my worth as a warm body and key person in his life. Getting into the grove took a bit and any disturbance will totally derail Jacks sleep pattern. We are in a constant battle to keep Jacks sleep stable.Bath at 7 , Boob at 7:30,bed by 8 then Shira hits the sack. I get him a bottle if he wakes up before 2 am then I go to bed.Shira then gets him after 2 am till one of us goes to work. Now that Shira is back to work I am watching Jack 2 days a week and Shira is working from home the other three. So I get 2 days a week of bonding time with Jack. I am finding that this is so fun,a lot of stress but fun. I get to play all day and be silly and crazy just to make Jack happy. Now he is three months old and is just gigantic. At 10 weeks old he was as big as a 5 month old baby and he seems to grow exponentially every day. Sometimes I go to work and come home to a bigger baby. He laughs and plays all day long.He wants you to engage him all the time.
Other than sleep and work you don't get much time to yourself let alone time with each other. Shira gets the big shaft on this one,as he needs her for food. This is all part of being a parent and something to work through.
Jack is advancing so fast,he holds his head for long periods of time and stands up with our help with ease. He talks back with lots of goooos and gaaaas when you talk to him.
To be honest I was not sure of how I was going to be as a father,I did not have great role models in this area.I know I am not perfect, but I am working really hard to be a great father. Tomorrow is my day with Jack and I cant wait.
